JVC INTRODUCES 24-INCH HD 3D PRODUCTION ANALYSIS MONITOR

WAYNE, NJ – JVC Professional Products Company, a division of JVC Americas Corp., today introduced the DT-3D24G1U 24-inch HD 3D LCD production analysis LCD monitor. The latest addition to JVC’s Vérité G Series product line, the compact monitor supports virtually any 3D camera setting, with advanced measurement tools to confirm that left and right images have been properly aligned.

With its X-Pol™ circular polarizing system, the DT-3D24G1U displays 3D images that can be seen using inexpensive polarized (passive) glasses, which avoids potential flicker and power issues associated with active shutter glasses. With no need to synchronize glasses with the display, the monitor is ideal for viewing environments where multiple displays are used, such as control rooms or production trucks. Plus, the DT-3D24G1U can be battery powered, making it ideal for location shoots.

Compatible with side-by-side and line-by-line 3D formats, the DT-3D24G1U offers a number of tools for checking 3D signals, including a 3D cursor that enables binocular disparity to be easily adjusted for optimized 3D effects. Other 3D features include unique 3D measurement markers for left and right channels, mirror/rotation of one channel for dual-camera rigs, split left/right signals for fine tuning camera positions as well as iris and white balance, and left/right sequential display to allow viewing of footage without 3D glasses. In addition, a left/right swap allows users to check whether cables from the camera(s) to the monitor are connected properly.

Beyond 3D functions, the DT-3D24G1U is equipped with many professional features found in the Vérité G Series. The LCD panel offers 1920×1200 pixel resolution with 10-bit digital processing and 3G and dual link HD-SDI inputs. Its built-in dual mode waveform and vectorscope provide an easy way to check and monitor input signals from both channels for camera adjustment. The monitor also offers various gamma selection options, displays up to 12 channels of audio metering, supports LTC/VITC time code, and provides on-screen time code display that can show any time code difference between both inputs.

The DT-3D24G1U has a list price of $11,995 and will be available in January 2012.

FUJINON HD ENG ZOOM CAPTURES BEAUTY OF UTAH HOME AND SCENERY FOR HGTV DREAM HOME 2012

Wayne, N.J. – HGTV Dream Home 2012 will feature a spectacular home just outside of Park City, Utah that one lucky viewer can win in next year’s sweepstakes. The show premieres immediately following the 123rd Tournament of Roses Parade on HGTV January 2, 2012, at 1 p.m., with an encore presentation January 3.

HGTV Dream Home, which has kicked off the New Year on HGTV for over a decade, introduces a new fully furnished custom home built just for this special event. The beauty and detail of the HGTV Dream Home 2012 was captured in 1080/60i resolution using a FUJINON HA25x11.5BERD HD ENG telephoto lens on a Sony HDWF900 CineAlta HDCAM Camcorder.

“Since the house is situated in a valley surrounded by mountains and overlooking the Provo River, we wanted to give viewers a true sense of its magnificent location and views,” said Rick Porterfield, director of studio and field operations for Scripps Networks Interactive, based in Knoxville, Tenn. “We were blown away by the high-quality images captured by this lens as well as its smooth, easy operation—a real asset whenever we needed to shoot handheld.”

Shot documentary-style, this one-hour show gives viewers a tour of the interior and exterior of the home including its great room, master sitting room, outdoor living room, and hot tub deck. It also features on-camera interviews with the architects, interior designers, landscapers, and builders who contributed to the effort.

Scripps’ Director/Cameraman Jason Grant positioned the camcorder on a tripod in the mountains to capture a variety of beauty shots of the entire vista and the river below, and then zoomed in close to the house. Porterfield noted, “We shot in beautiful, sunny natural light, as well as the home’s interior supplemented with LED and tungsten lighting.”

The FUJINON HA25X11.5BERD is a Premier Series lightweight, compact telephoto HD lens with an F-stop range of 2.0 to 2.8, and a focal length ranging from 11.5 to 288mm. Ideal for documentaries and other electronic field production, this lens offers FUJINON’s exclusive DigiPower zoom and focus servo system for fast, accurate zooming.

Scripps Networks Interactive also recently purchased two HA14x4.5BERM HD ENG Super Wide Angle lenses for other, upcoming network productions.

WSET-TV Delivers Local HD News with JVC ProHD Cameras

WAYNE, NJ – WSET-TV, the ABC affiliate in Roanoke-Lynchburg, Va. (DMA #66), has transitioned to local HD news with new ProHD cameras from JVC Professional Products Company, a division of JVC Americas Corp. The station recently purchased eight GY-HM790Us and eight GY-HM750Us, which will be used for studio and ENG work.

Affiliated with Arlington, Va.-based Allbritton Communications Company, WSET-TV is one six Allbritton stations that is standardizing on JVC ProHD cameras for studio and ENG work. The new cameras are part of an overall transition to local HD news production for all stations in the group.

This summer, WSET-TV connected three GY-HM790U cameras via fiber optic cable in the studio, avoiding the need for triax and additional cable bundles. “It was a huge quality upgrade for us in our studio,” said K.C. Spiron, WSET-TV director of operations and engineering. “We get plenty of power to run the monitors we need and it works well.”

In September, WSET-TV starting shooting ENG footage exclusively with its new ProHD camcorders. Spiron said the shooters quickly embraced the use of non-proprietary SDHC media cards and JVC’s native file recording technology, which provides ready-to-edit footage for the station’s Adobe Premiere CS5.5 NLE workstations.

“They love the ease of use and the flexibility. Focus Assist is a big help,” Spiron added. “From an engineering perspective, the quality is very good and they are very easy to configure. We were still tape based until this switch, so this has vastly improved our workflow. We use the JVC ProHD Clip Manager [software] for logging as well.”

With a lightweight, shoulder-mount design, the GY-HM750U delivers outstanding 1920×1080 images and can record HD footage in 720p, 1080p, and 1080i, as well as SD footage (480i). Ideal for ENG news, sports, and other location shoots, it offers the industry’s fastest shoot-to-edit workflow by recording native HD or SD footage in ready-to-edit file formats on low-cost SDHC memory cards. Plus, a new feature allows simultaneous recording to both SDHC cards for instant backup or client copy.

College of the Canyons Anchors Remodeled Studio with Broadcast Pix Granite 5000 Live Video Production System

Billerica, Massachusetts – Broadcast Pix™ today announced that College of the Canyons, a community college in Valencia, Calif., that serves the Santa Clarita area, has installed a Granite™ 5000 live video production system as part of an upgrade to HD production for its studio and control room facilities. The system is used for classroom instruction as well as the production of Cougar News, a student-produced news program that is streamed live to www.cougarnews.com.

Part of the Division of Fine and Performing Arts, the Department of Media Entertainment Arts (MEA) has more than 400 students, including more than 85 broadcast students. Ron Entrekin, broadcast lab technical engineer, said part of the certification offered through the department is based on providing training on professional equipment. The move to HD production was a must, he added, because “HD is where a lot of broadcast and high-end production houses are going.”

Local bond funds allocated for upgrading the college campus paid for the $1 million renovation. In addition to a new Granite 5000, which was installed in February by the Garden Grove, Calif.-based offices of VMI, Inc., the facility now features a Yamaha LS9 digital audio mixer and three new JVC GY-HD250U ProHD cameras with studio configurations on Libec pedestals.

Entrekin praised the 2 M/E workflow of the Granite 5000. With its DVI output, one M/E is used to feed background monitors on the set and change them on the fly during a show. “It did exactly what we wanted at a price we could afford,” Entrekin said. “The 2 M/E workflow is how we want to teach in the control room, and Broadcast Pix works better than any other system out there.”

For Entrekin, one of the main reasons for choosing the Granite system was Fluent™ Watch Folders, which allows students to import video files over the network, even during a live program. He also said they use the built-in clip and animation stores, as well as the built-in Harris Inscriber GS CG. Entrekin said there are also plans to integrate Fluent Rapid CG into the system to feed a handful of 46-inch monitors across the facility with updated news and weather, along with programming.

Granite 5000 includes support for Fluent-View customizable displays, but MEA added support for an additional two monitors for its facility. Three Fluent-View monitors are used in the control room – one for the director, two 60-inch LCD monitors for the technical director – while the fourth is used in the audio room. “The audio person can see what’s coming before it gets to air,” Entrekin explained. “We couldn’t do that before. Our audio students love being able to see what’s coming next.”

Students produce seven episodes of Cougar News each semester, as well as four specials. Episodes are also shown on SCVTV, the local PEG (public, education, government) channel on Time Warner Cable. The programs are also available on demand on the school’s Web site and www.scvtv.com.

Meanwhile, MEA’s previous production system, a Broadcast Pix Targa 2000 purchased in 2007, is now being used by advanced students to produce live school baseball and basketball coverage, which is streamed to the Web site via Skype. “Our students have found a use for it beyond what we expected,” Entrekin said.

Vizrt Gives Worldwide Broadcasters On-Demand Access to DigitalGlobe High-Resolution Earth Imagery

Enables Designers to Quickly Add DigitalGlobe’s Most Up-to-Date Satellite and Aerial Content Into Interactive Broadcast Graphics and Maps

LONGMONT, CO, Dec 12, 2011 — DigitalGlobe (NYSE: DGI), a leading global provider of high-resolution earth imagery solutions, today announced that Vizrt (VIZ: NO) has launched a new online service enabling designers to quickly find, preview, and add DigitalGlobe imagery into their broadcast graphics packages using Vizrt’s Viz World production software. The subscription-based service, titled “DigitalGlobe Online,” is available now.

“We are approaching a point where having access to high-quality satellite and aerial imagery in newscasting isn’t a nice-to-have, it’s a must-have,” said Havard Myklebust, executive vice president of marketing. “Using Viz World, design teams can now integrate the highest quality, most up-to-date DigitalGlobe images for use in their interactive, touch-screen graphics packages. Unlike other solutions, this can include fresh imagery from high-risk regions where it is either too difficult or too dangerous for journalists to access on the ground.”

Using the familiar and intuitive Viz World interface, subscribers can quickly search the DigitalGlobe archive to find and preview the imagery that best suits their needs. They can then immediately begin using the imagery to create high-accuracy maps of a region, adding dynamic touchscreen-based drawing tools and controls that give on-air talent the freedom to move, resize, highlight, and animate areas of the map.

In addition to using archived imagery, subscribers will also be able to use newly captured imagery of crisis events taking place worldwide. This allows production teams to consistently monitor high-risk events as they unfold, then quickly begin using images from before, during and after the crisis to maximize newscast impact and accuracy.

“Providing on-demand access to our imagery through Viz World gives broadcasters one more critical tool for transforming good shows into must-see events,” said Andrea Bersan, international vice president at DigitalGlobe. “With direct access to the largest, most consistently updated repository of high-resolution imagery available today, production teams can be confident they are using the latest imagery available, with worldwide coverage and maximum accuracy.”

About DigitalGlobe DigitalGlobe is a leading global provider of commercial high-resolution earth imagery products and services. Sourced from our own advanced satellite constellation, our imagery solutions support a wide variety of uses within defense and intelligence, civil agencies, mapping and analysis, environmental monitoring, oil and gas exploration, infrastructure management, Internet portals and navigation technology. JVC ANNOUNCES LOWER PRICING FOR GY-HM710 PROHD CAMCORDER WITH FREE ANTON/BAUER POWER SYSTEM FOR LIMITED TIME

WAYNE, NJ – JVC Professional Products Company, a division of JVC Americas Corp., today announced a new lower price on its GY-HM710 ProHD camcorder. Introduced earlier this year, the compact, shoulder-mount camcorder is ideal for ENG news, documentaries, event coverage, and educational applications. The company also announced the JVC Power Promotion, a limited time offer that includes a free Anton/Bauer power system package with the purchase of a new GY-HM710.

Introduced earlier this year, the GY-HM710 includes extensive image customization modes, JVC’s patented Focus Assist, and a 20-second Pre Rec (retro cache) feature, which continuously records and stores footage in cache memory and helps prevent missed shots of breaking events. Its new $5,995 list price includes the camera head with bayonet lens mount, viewfinder, microphone, Anton/Bauer battery plate, and Canon 14:1 ENG lens.

Customers who purchase a new GY-HM710 from an authorized JVC Professional reseller between now and the end of 2011 are eligible to receive an Anton/Bauer AB-DIONIC-PKG battery and power system package directly from JVC. Valued at $1,185, the package includes an Anton/Bauer DIONIC 90 Li-Ion battery, Tandem 70 InterActive charger, and AC power supply.

“The GY-HM710 delivers the same amazing image quality and efficient workflow of our ProHD product line, but eliminates the modular functionality that many customers don’t need,” said Craig Yanagi, national marketing and brand manager. “The result is a perfect balance between features and affordability, and the new pricing along with JVC’s Power Promotion makes it an even more attractive option for video professionals.”

With the same 3-CCD imaging system found in other ProHD models, the GY-HM710 records 1920×1080 HD footage in 1080p and 1080i at 25 Mbps or 35 Mbps. JVC’s native file recording technology allows recording in ready-to-edit file formats for Apple Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere (.MOV), as well as other major NLE systems (.MP4), to non-proprietary SDHC cards. For legacy applications, the camcorder can also record SD footage (480i) as standard DV files (.AVI or .MOV). Other features include a high resolution (1.22 million pixel) LCOS viewfinder and 4.3-inch flip-out LCD monitor, plus two XLR audio inputs with phantom power and manual audio level controls with audio meter.

The JVC Power Promotion ends Dec. 31.
