Vizrt Highlights IP Streaming, Integrated Approach to Video and Graphics Production and Distribution at Broadcast Asia 2013

At the Broadcast Asia Show, the emphasis in the Vizrt booth (#5H3-01) will be on the importance of an integrated workflow for video and graphics production and distribution. Vizrt will demonstrate the IP media streaming capabilities of its Viz Engine real-time compositing and rendering engine, which is at the heart of the Vizrt graphics, newsroom, and presentation workflows.

Multi-platform content distribution

This past April, at the 2013 NAB Show, Vizrt introduced a new IP version of Viz Engine that’s capable of real-time IP streaming VizEngine_Multiplatform 5 28 13input and output, including compositing of 3D graphics and HD/SD video. Multiple Viz Engines can render the same content and output different formats for multiple platforms. Removing the need for a costly video card or transcoding capability for every platform, the IP version provides an affordable and compact solution for online delivery.

Vizrt will also show a multi-platform workflow enabled by the Viz Media Engine media asset management system, which automatically encodes live video from high-resolution to any format at speeds faster than real-time for online and mobile devices. As part of its file-based transcoding and media asset management workflow, it also integrates video, graphics, and branding tailored to the targeted device in a streamlined way.

Efficient newsroom workflow

Vizrt gives journalists the edge for getting a story on-air and online quickly and efficiently with a newsroom workflow that integrates easy-to-use templates with the journalists’ native newsroom computer system (NRCS). With Viz Content Pilot, journalists access these templates for creating graphics, editing maps with Viz World and selecting videos from Viz Media Engine to add to a playlist for on-air use and online multi-platform delivery.

IDC Appoints New President and CEO to Board of Directors

Zylight Showcases LED Lighting at InfoComm

LOS ANGELES – Zylight, a leading manufacturer of innovative LED lighting solutions, will demonstrate its new F8 LED Fresnel and IS3c wide soft light at InfoComm 2013 (Booth 6047), which runs June 12-14 in Orlando, Fla. Well established in the broadcast and theater markets, Zylight is exhibiting at InfoComm for the first time.

Available in tungsten (3200K) or daylight (5600K) versions, the new F8 LED Fresnel collapses to less than four inches thick for easy transport and storage. It is equipped with an eight-inch SCHOTT glass lens and maintains single shadow traditional Fresnel beam shaping. The fully dimmable F8 offers a patented focusing system for spot and flood operations, with an Zylight F8 JPEGadjustable beam spread for even coverage for widescreen productions.

While the F8 draws only 100 watts, it has close to the light output of a traditional 1000-watt Fresnel. It is also water resistant (IP54) for use in challenging location conditions, and can be powered by a worldwide AC adapter or standard 14.4V camera battery. Like other Zylight models, the F8 is equipped with ZyLink wireless technology, which makes it easy to link multiple Zylights for simultaneous remote control. Zylight will also showcase its IS3c LED light, an updated version of Zylight’s acclaimed IS3 large panel cyclorama and beauty light. Cathedral of Faith Church Relies on Hitachi for HD Production Upgrade

WOODBURY, New York – When San Jose-based Cathedral of Faith Church began its HD overhaul last year, they looked to systems integrator Spectaveris to select video production equipment that best met their needs. After carefully considering their camera choices, the Texas-based integrator found Hitachi Kokusai Electric America SK-HD1000 multi-format digital HDTV production cameras were ideal for their client. Five of the high-performance cameras were recently installed as part of the Cathedral of Faith SK-HD1000_1church’s two-phase project to upgrade to full HD broadcast capability.

“Choosing the right camera equipment was a lengthy process,” said Spectaveris president Dean Stone. “The church already had four lenses on existing standard definition cameras that were ‘HD Ready’ and capable of handling the tighter specifications of an HD camera. Because they wanted to continue using them once the church transitioned to HD, we had to find 2/3-inch format cameras that would work well with their lenses. After evaluating Hitachi’s cameras, along with other competitively priced cameras on the market, we were sold on the SK-HD1000’s superior HD image quality.”

Three of Hitachi’s production cameras are positioned in the back of the sanctuary with large LCD viewfinders, while the other two are used as handheld cameras in the front of the room. Each week, Cathedral of Faith records its Saturday service at the church’s San Jose location, and then transports the video on portable external hard drives to each of its seven remote locations Cathedral of Faith SK-HD1000_2around the San Francisco Bay area. The church also has live HD feeds to their outdoor pavilion every Sunday morning, broadcasts their services online, and offers DVDs of services to the congregation.

“Transitioning to HD has enabled us to better connect with our members,” explained Kurt Foreman, the executive pastor and director of operations at Cathedral of Faith. “Our church strives to give the congregation a memorable experience every week. High-quality video is an important part of this. The Hitachi cameras have helped enhance our services and engage our audience more than we could previously.”

PESA to Demonstrate 4K Routing Switcher at InfoComm 2013

Huntsville, Alabama – May 22, 2013 – PESA, a leading U.S.-based custom design and build manufacturing company for professional audio and video signal distribution, will demonstrate its latest Cheetah 4K fiber optic routing switcher at InfoComm 2013 (Booth 2958), which runs June 12-14 in Orlando, Fla. Built on PESA’s proven Cheetah digital video routing platform, the new 4K routing switcher provides ultra-high definition video distribution up to 600m over multi-mode cable.

Each 4K source is connected to an outboard easyPORT-4KX1F coax to fiber media converter that supports up to 12 Gbps per port over a single fiber to the router. Unique to the easyPORT-4KX1F is the ability to accept ultra-high resolution 4K video at 4K Demo 5 22 13 JPEG3840×2160 and 4096×2160. Each input port can also be configured individually to accept up to four independent 3G-SDI signals to be transported over a signal fiber cable.

Every 12 Gbps fiber output port from the router is connected to an external easyPORT-1FX4K fiber-to-coax media converter to provide four BNCs per 4K destination, which allows an additional 80m of coax extension to position 4K devices further downstream of the media converter. Both the easyPORT-4KX1F and easyPORT-1FX4K can be rack mounted with an optional 1 RU frame that holds up to four media converters, or the media converters can be installed with an optional mounting plate.

The new Cheetah 4K fiber optic router includes 12 Gbps input ports and output ports via standard SC style fiber connectors. Housed in only 4 RU, the compact Cheetah 4K router provides a huge advantage over similar offerings by including internal control for Ethernet or traditional RS-232/422 control, hot swappable matrix and I/O cards, redundant power and control, and SNMP support for third-party, high-end network management systems. The router can be configured and controlled via PESA’s intuitive Cattrax network GUI or optional Cattrax Web network server software using PESA’s powerful PERC2000 or PERC3000 System Controller hardware.

PESA will also offer retrofit packages of the Cheetah 4K I/O system for existing 3G-SDI Cheetah systems. Once the control software is configured for 4K, the router system can run both 4K and 3G-SDI signals in parallel. Each easyPORT 4K media module includes Ethernet connectivity for control and configuration, which makes it easy to pre-configure the router to alternatively accept individual 3G-SDI, 2K, and other SMPTE-compliant formats. Future I/O card upgrades will include audio embedding and de-embedding, as well as full compliance for future SMPTE interfaces on the roadmap for 2K/4K formats.

iPixPanel controls all aspects of a Broadcast Pix system to create professional live video. iPixPanel can be the sole control surface for a system, or it can be a handy portable panel. For example, an operator can sit in an auditorium and use it during a tech rehearsal to preview exactly what the audience will see on screen during a presentation.
