Vizrt Highlights IP Streaming, Integrated Approach to Video and Graphics Production and Distribution at Broadcast Asia 2013

At the Broadcast Asia Show, the emphasis in the Vizrt booth (#5H3-01) will be on the importance of an integrated workflow for video and graphics production and distribution. Vizrt will demonstrate the IP media streaming capabilities of its Viz Engine real-time compositing and rendering engine, which is at the heart of the Vizrt graphics, newsroom, and presentation workflows.

Multi-platform content distribution

This past April, at the 2013 NAB Show, Vizrt introduced a new IP version of Viz Engine that’s capable of real-time IP streaming VizEngine_Multiplatform 5 28 13input and output, including compositing of 3D graphics and HD/SD video. Multiple Viz Engines can render the same content and output different formats for multiple platforms. Removing the need for a costly video card or transcoding capability for every platform, the IP version provides an affordable and compact solution for online delivery.

Vizrt will also show a multi-platform workflow enabled by the Viz Media Engine media asset management system, which automatically encodes live video from high-resolution to any format at speeds faster than real-time for online and mobile devices. As part of its file-based transcoding and media asset management workflow, it also integrates video, graphics, and branding tailored to the targeted device in a streamlined way.

Efficient newsroom workflow

Vizrt gives journalists the edge for getting a story on-air and online quickly and efficiently with a newsroom workflow that integrates easy-to-use templates with the journalists’ native newsroom computer system (NRCS). With Viz Content Pilot, journalists access these templates for creating graphics, editing maps with Viz World and selecting videos from Viz Media Engine to add to a playlist for on-air use and online multi-platform delivery.

Vizrt partner Mosart will demonstrate the tight integration between its newsroom automation system and Vizrt’s live graphics workflow to enrich the content and quality of newscasts while also reducing costs.

Complete online workflow

Vizrt will present a highly integrated workflow for online with the Vizrt Online Suite. Journalists and publishers can produce video and text other content from the same solution and use video efficiently in the storytelling.

Social TV

With the Vizrt Social TV solution, Vizrt will demonstrate how the audience becomes part of the story with social media content captured, moderated then visualized using Vizrt’s 3D graphics capabilities. Content is captured from Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Youtube, Instagram as well as third party partners like never.nonever.no will be at the booth with Social TV demos that will highlight the latest enhancements to never.no’s Interactivity Suite – the technology that connects fragmented media platforms across broadcast TV systems, mobile, and social media platforms — enabling real-time viewer participation, social TV, and synchronized companion apps.

“Broadcast Asia is always an important show for us,” said Petter Ole Jacobsen, Vizrt, CTO. “Our Asian customers are among the most progressive in terms of technology innovation, and we’re always eager to show them our latest advances to help them create additional revenue and what they can do to make their broadcasts better than ever.”

LOS ANGELES – Zylight, a leading manufacturer of innovative LED lighting solutions, will demonstrate its new F8 LED Fresnel and IS3c wide soft light at InfoComm 2013 (Booth 6047), which runs June 12-14 in Orlando, Fla. Well established in the broadcast and theater markets, Zylight is exhibiting at InfoComm for the first time.

Available in tungsten (3200K) or daylight (5600K) versions, the new F8 LED Fresnel collapses to less than four inches thick for easy transport and storage. Cathedral of Faith Church Relies on Hitachi for HD Production Upgrade

WOODBURY, New York – When San Jose-based Cathedral of Faith Church began its HD overhaul last year, they looked to systems integrator Spectaveris to select video production equipment that best met their needs. After carefully considering their camera choices, the Texas-based integrator found Hitachi Kokusai Electric America SK-HD1000 multi-format digital HDTV production cameras were ideal for their client. Five of the high-performance cameras were recently installed as part of the Cathedral of Faith SK-HD1000_1church’s two-phase project to upgrade to full HD broadcast capability.

“Choosing the right camera equipment was a lengthy process,” said Spectaveris president Dean Stone. “The church already had four lenses on existing standard definition cameras that were ‘HD Ready’ and capable of handling the tighter specifications of an HD camera. Because they wanted to continue using them once the church transitioned to HD, we had to find 2/3-inch format cameras that would work well with their lenses. After evaluating Hitachi’s cameras, along with other competitively priced cameras on the market, we were sold on the SK-HD1000’s superior HD image quality.”

Three of Hitachi’s production cameras are positioned in the back of the sanctuary with large LCD viewfinders, while the other two are used as handheld cameras in the front of the room. Each week, Cathedral of Faith records its Saturday service at the church’s San Jose location, and then transports the video on portable external hard drives to each of its seven remote locations Cathedral of Faith SK-HD1000_2around the San Francisco Bay area. The church also has live HD feeds to their outdoor pavilion every Sunday morning, broadcasts their services online, and offers DVDs of services to the congregation.

“Transitioning to HD has enabled us to better connect with our members,” explained Kurt Foreman, the executive pastor and director of operations at Cathedral of Faith. “Our church strives to give the congregation a memorable experience every week. High-quality video is an important part of this. The Hitachi cameras have helped enhance our services and engage our audience more than we could previously.”

Dean Stone added, “In upgrading the church to HD, our number one priority was to choose products that offer Cathedral of Faith great value. Installing Hitachi cameras provided them with the best products for their needs – while remaining within their budget.”

PESA to Demonstrate 4K Routing Switcher at InfoComm 2013

Huntsville, Alabama – May 22, 2013 – PESA, a leading U.S.-based custom design and build manufacturing company for professional audio and video signal distribution, will demonstrate its latest Cheetah 4K fiber optic routing switcher at InfoComm 2013 (Booth 2958), which runs June 12-14 in Orlando, Fla. Built on PESA’s proven Cheetah digital video routing platform, the new 4K routing switcher provides ultra-high definition video distribution up to 600m over multi-mode cable.

Each 4K source is connected to an outboard easyPORT-4KX1F coax to fiber media converter that supports up to 12 Gbps per port over a single fiber to the router. Unique to the easyPORT-4KX1F is the ability to accept ultra-high resolution 4K video at 4K Demo 5 22 13 JPEG3840×2160 and 4096×2160. Each input port can also be configured individually to accept up to four independent 3G-SDI signals to be transported over a signal fiber cable.

Every 12 Gbps fiber output port from the router is connected to an external easyPORT-1FX4K fiber-to-coax media converter to provide four BNCs per 4K destination, which allows an additional 80m of coax extension to position 4K devices further downstream of the media converter. Both the easyPORT-4KX1F and easyPORT-1FX4K can be rack mounted with an optional 1 RU frame that holds up to four media converters, or the media converters can be installed with an optional mounting plate.

The new Cheetah 4K fiber optic router includes 12 Gbps input ports and output ports via standard SC style fiber connectors. Housed in only 4 RU, the compact Cheetah 4K router provides a huge advantage over similar offerings by including internal control for Ethernet or traditional RS-232/422 control, hot swappable matrix and I/O cards, redundant power and control, and SNMP support for third-party, high-end network management systems. The router can be configured and controlled via PESA’s intuitive Cattrax network GUI or optional Cattrax Web network server software using PESA’s powerful PERC2000 or PERC3000 System Controller hardware.

PESA will also offer retrofit packages of the Cheetah 4K I/O system for existing 3G-SDI Cheetah systems. Once the control software is configured for 4K, the router system can run both 4K and 3G-SDI signals in parallel. Each easyPORT 4K media module includes Ethernet connectivity for control and configuration, which makes it easy to pre-configure the router to alternatively accept individual 3G-SDI, 2K, and other SMPTE-compliant formats. Future I/O card upgrades will include audio embedding and de-embedding, as well as full compliance for future SMPTE interfaces on the roadmap for 2K/4K formats.

“With the rapid pace of new 4K cameras and displays coming to market, it’s the perfect time to demonstrate our next generation 4K fiber routing switcher based on a single 12Gbps fiber transport,” said Chuck Tillett, president and COO of PESA. “4K is fast becoming the new HD, and PESA has engineered a routing solution that is simple to configure and supports data-intensive 4K workflows.”

AbelCine to Represent Hybrid’s Neon Trackless 3D Virtual Studio Solution in the New York Metro Area

AbelCine Sees Strong Market Demand for Neon

Montrouge, France – Hybrid, a leading provider of real-time graphics and robotic camera systems, has signed a dealer agreement with AbelCine—a leading supplier of camera equipment for film, digital cinema, broadcast, and new media—to market its Hybrid Neon trackless 3D virtual studio solution in the New York metropolitan area.

While AbelCine can sell Neon from any of its three locations—New York, Chicago, and Burbank—a Neon trackless virtual set system has been installed in its New York showroom to give prospective buyers an in-depth demonstration.

“Neon is a very exciting, enabling virtual studio solution because it allows customers to produce impressive, multi-camera videoAbelCine New York studio 5 22 13 presentations even when they’re working in a small space, with minimal crews and tight budgets,” said Andrew Shipsides, Director of Education for AbelCine.

“As a supplier of high-end camera equipment, we can now assist our clients in creating the look and feel of a sophisticated studio environment for a fraction the price. We’re already seeing strong customer demand, including in-house corporate video studios, webcasters, as well as government, educational, and news organizations.”

The Neon trackless virtual studio solution is a user-friendly “virtual studio in a box” that simply requires software running on a PC. Rather than camera tracking and calibration technology, the Neon 3D virtual studio solution performs visual magic—through real-time processing of video signals from fixed cameras—to give the illusion that the cameras are moving realistically in relation to the synthetic set.

Users can either use Neon’s set design tools, or import virtual sets created using 3D Max, Maya, Softimage, or other common modeling software. Despite its comparatively low price point (under $60,000), Neon delivers photo-realistic, anti-aliased sets typical of higher-end virtual set systems.

Besides native support for up to five live HD/SD camera inputs, Neon’s dual output allows it to render two sets simultaneously from a single PC. With its latest enhancements, Neon can now be controlled by Black Magic Design’s ATEM vision mixer, as well as by Hybrid’s new Ozone app for Android phones and tablets.

“For over two decades, AbelCine has been a highly respected and trusted source for acquisition gear for demanding applications ranging from corporate video to digital cinema,” said Olivier Cohen, CEO, Hybrid. “Our agreement with AbelCine promises to be mutually beneficial since they’re already marketing products and services to video professionals for whom this powerful-yet-affordable virtual studio is a natural fit.”

Broadcast Pix Delivers Enhanced iPad Control Panel App

iPixPanel V2.0 Now Available in Apple Store

Billerica, Massachusetts – Broadcast Pix™ today announced Version 2.0 of its popular iPixPanel app for Apple iPad, which can control any Broadcast Pix integrated production system to provide an intuitive wireless control surface for the operator. V2 adds a three-axis virtual joystick, rotary knobs, additional mnemonics, and enhanced connectivity. Priced at $9.99, it is a free upgrade for V1 customers and is available now from the Apple Store.

“Our first generation iPad control surface was ahead of its time,” said Broadcast Pix CEO Steve Ellis. “By combining the iPad app with a touch screen, you have what I would describe as next generation workflow. Version 2 takes the art of live studio production one step further. The iPad is a dramatic and cost effective way to enhance your end-to-end production needs.”iPixPanel V2 JPEG 5 22 13

iPixPanel controls all aspects of a Broadcast Pix system to create professional live video. It switches cameras and adds key layers, while its patented device control bank can control the system’s clip server, CG, and more. It also features patented PixButtons that dynamically change to show the device and file name on the button for selecting with confidence during live productions. PixButton mnemonics have been enhanced in V2 to show the exact names of Fluent Macros effects on the buttons, not just numbers, which aids recall of powerful effects.

Robotic camera control has been enhanced as well, with a virtual joystick that can position and zoom a camera, plus knobs to adjust focus, iris, white balance, and other settings. The joystick and knobs can also customize PiP boxes to position, size, crop, or add borders. Plus, the knobs can quickly scrub through a clip in the system’s clip players, or change fade rates for switching video or adding key layers.

V2 also enhances connectivity. It ensures that the iPad maintains its wireless connection to control the Broadcast Pix system, even in the most crowded Wi-Fi environments, and it rapidly and automatically reconnects if a connection is lost. When the app connects, it automatically detects the Broadcast Pix system and configures itself accordingly, as models vary in number of key layers, internal clip channels, video outputs, and other resources.

iPixPanel can be the sole control surface for a system, or it can be a handy portable panel. For example, an operator can sit in an auditorium and use it during a tech rehearsal to preview exactly what the audience will see on screen during a presentation. It also excels in multi-operator productions, providing graphics or clip support during especially fast paced productions. For multi-screen productions (or when producing separate productions for television and streaming audiences), iPixPanel can be used to control one screen, while a conventional panel or second iPixPanel can be used for the other.

Any Broadcast Pix Granite™, Mica™, Slate™, or Flint™ live production system can be controlled through iPixPanel, which is compatible with all generations of iPads. Broadcast Pix also offers iPixPad, a free iPhone app, as well as control surface solutions for Androids and Windows tablets.

About Broadcast Pix The leader in live video production systems with end-to-end integration, Broadcast Pix was founded in 2002 and has customers in more than 110 countries.
