deltatre and Vizrt expanding partnership for Magma Pro Football solution

Bergen, Norway — Italy-based sports media and technology company deltatre and Vizrt broaden their partnership with Magma Pro powered by Viz Libero for the upcoming Football World Championship. Magma Pro powered by Viz Libero extends deltatre’s Magma product offering typically used for TV graphics and tournament statistics (including tracking data) with the virtual graphic capabilities and 3D camera flights offered by Viz Libero.

Viz Libero, Vizrt’s 3D sports analysis tool, accesses the Magma database to attach and display deltatre statistics to a player within the Viz Libero analysis, either by applying tied-to-pitch graphics such as heat maps, or with player pointers to tag the players on the field. The integration of Magma’s player tracking data allows for very-fast turnaround analysis clip preparation, as well as direct and easy Magma_Heatmapinteractive analysis by the studio expert. In addition, Magma Pro powered by Viz Libero enables a very smooth and fast workflow for accessing the game events and video footage stored in Magma within Viz Libero.

deltatre has been using Vizrt broadcast graphics products since 2004. Earlier this year they added several new Vizrt products to their production setup. Viz Trio, Vizrt’s character generator (CG), is being used extensively for live production of all real-time graphics, including lower thirds, match-ups, and score boards. Viz Virtual Studio creates augmented reality graphics on set, providing presenters with a new way of highlighting key players and match-ups.

Jim Irving, Commercial Director at deltatre, said, “We have a successful track record of integrating Vizrt products into innovative solutions for deltatre’s clients. Therefore, it’s fitting that the culmination of this relationship, Magma Pro powered by Viz Libero, will be used prominently during the biggest sporting event of 2014.”

“This solution will make anyone’s coverage of the World Cup really shine,” said Petter Ole Jakobsen, Vizrt CTO. “The mix of deltatre’s high-quality sports event data and production with our Viz Libero produces a system that gives viewers unparalleled insight into what is happening on the pitch. I can’t wait to see it live during the tournament.”

Magma Pro powered by Viz Libero will be unveiled for the first time this December in Rio de Janeiro in preparations for the upcoming Football World Championship. More information about the solution can be found at http://magma.deltatre.com and on www.vizrt.com.

Vizrt to acquire Mosart Medialab

Vizrt Ltd. announced today that it has entered into an indicative non-binding term sheet with TV2 Gruppen AS for the purchase of all of the issued share capital of Mosart Medialab AS (“Mosart”), a Norwegian private company active in the field of development and licensing of newscast automation software.

Mosart helps broadcasters streamline their workflow, automating a number of TV production tasks through software. The solution enables the creation of complex production with just a few operators through an easy-to-use software interface. Mosart takes input from the newsroom computer system to control systems and devices, while human resources remain in control and add the human touch.

“I am excited about the possibilities this proposed transaction can bring to Vizrt and our customers. Mosart’s technology is a perfect complement to our smart workflow solutions, and will enhance our offering to broadcasters on a global scale. Vizrt continues to innovate, and with this acquisition we further strengthen our position as the dominant player in the broadcast software market.” stated Martin Burkhalter, Vizrt’s CEO.

Burkhalter added, “This transaction makes sense for us both strategically and financially. Mosart has shown strong growth, and we expect our due diligence to show the acquisition will be accretive.”

“Mosart’s technology will enable us to simplify content production for our current and future customers. The proposed joining of forces will not just add products to our portfolio; it will also enable us to develop new integrated products and workflows that have the potential of being highly disruptive for the broadcast technology market. Integrating Mosart’s technology with Viz Engine, for instance, would offer the market a very powerful and efficient tv-in-a-box-solution,” stated Vizrt’s CTO Petter Ole Jakobsen.

In consideration for the purchase of 100% of the issued share capital of Mosart, VIZRT shall pay, at the closing of the transaction, an amount of NOK 105 million (approximately USD 17.6 million). In addition, the sellers have an earn-out mechanism should the revenues for the years 2013, 2014 and 2015 exceed certain thresholds.

As part of the transaction, TV2 Gruppen AS shall continue to be granted a license for Mosart’s software, in accordance with the current annual license fee charged by Mosart, of NOK 2.6 million per year for 7 years.

The indicative term sheet entered into is non-binding. The transaction is subject to a legal, financial, technical and operational due diligence review. Assuming the due diligence review is to Vizrt’s satisfaction, subject to board of directors’ approval, agreement on transaction documents, including a final share purchase agreement, and receipt of all required approvals, including regulatory approvals, the parties aim to conclude the transaction by December 31, 2013.

Vizrt provides Lockheed Martin interactive big data visualization tools

Vizrt has collaborated with Lockheed Martin to develop a solution that visualizes big data in an interactive platform called the Multi-Touch Executive Dashboard (MED). To graphically visualize big data, MED combines Lockheed Martin’s real-time data asset management software, Microsoft’s Perceptive Pixel displays, and MED-E Interactive data JPGVizrt’s Viz Artist for 3D modeling, animation, and graphics creation, and Viz Engine for real-time 3D graphics visualization and rendering at resolutions of up to 4K.

The first large-scale big data visualization implemented is Lockheed Martin’s MED-E (Multi-Touch Executive Dashboard for Energy), designed to graphically illustrate layers of high-volume information about the status of energy resources, distribution, and supply. For example, WindOptimizer is a MED-E suite of cloud-based services that provide real-time sensor data, including weather forecast prediction and wind energy supplies, so that wind farms, power companies, and other energy companies can provide for more cost-efficient wind resource management.

Vizrt R&D teams in Europe along with designers and support in the United States worked closely with Lockheed Martin to design a system that had to meet a high-standard of quality for data visualization while at the same time be very flexible in its application. This allows for a wide range of industries to be able to utilize the product and have it customized for their specific needs.

“In developing the MED-E platform, we wanted to push the boundaries of Viz Artist and Viz Engine as a powerful live data harvester and interactive visualization platform,” said Petter Ole Jakobsen, Vizrt’s CTO, based in Bergen, Norway. “For MED-E, we’re taking multiple silos of data sources and coalescing them into one final, scalable, big picture visualization representing all these different data layers. And we are doing it live when live data is available.”

The MED platform interface allows multiple users to select icons that bring up multiple graphics and visual elements that they can then manipulate and interact with on Perceptive Pixel’s 82-inch LCD display. Viz Artist was chosen for use in MED-E WindOptimizer by Lockheed Martin JPGthe MED and MED-E visualization platforms because its 64-bit environment features advanced data gathering tools and plugins. The plugins allow designers to integrate custom logic easily into a scene, creating interactive elements such as click buttons or support for touchscreens. And, as a powerful rendering engine, Viz Engine is used as the complete graphics and video layer for applications requiring high-fidelity, low latency content and interactivity.

“The MED platform can also be adapted to a wide range of vertical markets—such as medical imaging, military defense, energy exploration, geo-intelligence, and business information/intelligence systems and supply chain analytics—where knowledge workers need to make timely decisions based upon their understanding of relevant big data,” said Matt Kier, principal project engineer for Lockheed Martin. “Lockheed Martin and Vizrt have worked together on several projects and our relationship has been mutually beneficial. The Vizrt development teams in Norway, Austria, Thailand, and across the globe have helped us develop a platform that is easily integrated for our international customers, visually intuitive and tailored for any customer language.”

“This collaboration with Lockheed Martin is incredibly exciting,” added Jakobsen. “Together we’re developing a solution to one of today’s most complex problems, that of capturing, harnessing, and managing big data using a very user-friendly, interactive, 3D graphics-rich data visualization platform.”
