DoD Extends JITC Certification to Include PESA Video Distribution System (VDS) Product Upgrades

Huntsville, Alabama – PESA, a leading designer and manufacturer of professional audio and video distribution solutions, today announced the U.S. Department of Defense has approved upgrades to its Video Distribution System (VDS), which includes several products in its Cheetah large-scale digital router product line. After initially receiving certification in January 2013, the company submitted a number of software and firmware updates for evaluation and testing.

The most significant upgrade is the new series of Vidblox 2K DVI dual link PESA Video Distribution Systemextenders, which transport video resolutions up to 2560×1600@60Hz over coax and/or fiber. “Vidblox 2K provides an inexpensive multi-path solution for distributing ultra high-resolution graphics over long distances,” explained Col. John T. Wright (U.S. Army, Retired), PESA senior vice president, sales and business development. “It’s a significant step forward in functionality, and with JITC certification, now the DoD can install an even wider range of PESA products in a variety of applications.”

PESA was the first company to achieve listing on the Department of Defense Unified Capabilities (UC) Approved Products List (APL) as a VDS, and remains the industry leader for large-scale VDS solutions. It is the only listing of such equipment approved by the DoD to be fielded in DoD networks. The APL is managed by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA).

The upgraded products received Interoperability Certification (IOC) and Information Assurance (IA) accreditation from DISA’s Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC), which is responsible for certifying joint and combined interoperability of all DoD information technology and national security systems. With an array of software and hardware-based testing procedures, JITC evaluates technologies that provide warfighters with high-tech advantages in both peacetime and war. JITC certification ensures that a technological device or system meets the full standards to operate in a UC environment.

PESA offers a complete portfolio of secure video switching and distribution solutions that deliver up to 4K resolution. With robust features that support continuity of operations, command and control and emergency preparedness and response, the Cheetah product line has proven to be a solid foundation for many government and federal agencies, such as the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, and NASA.

“JITC certification is very important because it ensures that DoD officials can rely on our products to deliver high-quality imagery for C4ISR between distinct video chains,” added Wright. “PESA is proud to continue to provide our military and other government agencies with mission-critical products for video and audio distribution.”

PESA Delivers New Cheetah 4K Routing Solutions, Retrofit Kits

Huntsville, Alabama  – PESA, a leading designer and manufacturer of professional audio and video distribution solutions, today announced its new Cheetah 4K routing solutions. Built to manage the expanded bandwidth requirements of 4K signals, new routers are available in multiple configurations, while retrofit kits provide a simple plug-and-play upgrade solution for current 3G-SDI Cheetah routers.

“4K is quickly becoming the display norm for today’s tech-savvy audiences, and PESA is now delivering a key component to any operation’s 4K infrastructure,” Cheetahsaid Chuck Tillett, president and COO of PESA. “With our easyPORT technology, existing Cheetah installations can be partially or completely upgraded to 4K in the field to support data intensive workflows. New Cheetahs can be dedicated 4K routers or partitioned and converted later as your 4K needs grow.”

Built on PESA’s proven Cheetah digital video routing platform and easyPORT converter module technology, each I/O card includes four SC-style fiber CWDM connections carrying up to 12 Gbps (4xSDI) for each port. An outboard easyPORT module converts the signals from each CWDM port on the router back to conventional HD/3G-SDI video lines. Both UHDTV (3840×2160) and DCI (4096×2160) are supported, and the router can mix and match between 4K CWDM and traditional copper or fiber I/O in the frame.

The 4K I/O card is a direct drop-in replacement for the standard 16-channel HD/3G-SDI card found in current Cheetah frames. Any size Cheetah 3G-SDI routing switcher can be retrofitted with the new Cheetah 4K I/O card system by replacing any existing 16-channel I/O card set and reconfiguring the software to accept the new 4K cards. Once the control software is configured for 4K, the router system can run both 4K and 3G-SDI signals in parallel.

With the built-in crosspoint switch circuit on each easyPORT module, users can send four independent SD/HD/3G-SDI signals over a single wire interface, which saves valuable cabling space, and can extend coax I/O an additional 260 feet using the built-in equalizing and reclocking circuits in each easyPORT. The compact easyPORTs can be rack mounted with an optional 1 RU frame that holds up to four media converters or installed with an optional under-the-table mounting plate.

For mission critical operations, redundant power and control modules can be added without using additional rack space. The Cheetah router is controlled through traditional RS-232/422 or Ethernet connections, and its built-in SNMP MIB simplifies integration to third-party network system management software. With hot swappable matrix and I/O cards, as well as internal power and control, the need for additional power and external cabling is virtually eliminated.

Cheetah 4K routers can be configured and controlled via PESA’s intuitive Cattrax network GUI or optional Cattrax Web network server software using PESA’s powerful PERC2000 or PERC3000 system controller hardware. Visit PESA’s newly redesigned Web site at www.pesa.com for more information.
