Latest Version of Digital Nirvana’s Powerful Broadcast Monitoring System Now Available

SmartSearch, SmartAlerts, Variable Speed Playback, and Intuitive GUI Set it Apart from Other Monitoring Systems

Fremont, CA – Digital Nirvana announces shipment of Monitor IQ 4.0, the latest version of its broadcast monitoring software. Monitor IQ is an in-house logging and compliance monitoring solution for traditional broadcasting media. Version 4.0 made its debut at the NAB convention this past April in Las Vegas. It is available for download and will ship on new units as of July 15, 2014.

New features within Version 4.0 include: SmartSearch, SmartAlerts, transport
stream recording, variable speed speed playback, enhanced editing, and an Monitor IQ 4.0improved, easy-to-use user interface.

“With these new features, we’ve solidified Monitor IQ’s position as the smartest monitoring solution in the industry with the most rapid return on investment,” said Arco Groenenberg, director of sales and marketing for Broadcast Products, Digital Nirvana. “Based on our close customer relationships, we’ll keep pushing the envelope and bring more broadcast-centric functionality to Monitor IQ.”

The new SmartSearch feature is a highlight of Version 4.0 and sets Monitor IQ apart from other broadcast monitoring systems. With SmartSearch users can search by date, time, and channel as well as by key words in the close caption, alert reports, as-run and traffic logs.  Expression searches enable simultaneous keyword searches in the As Run log and closed captioning sections. Monitor IQ’s Boolean search capability makes it easier to define the search by adding AND, OR, + within search terms.  This allows the user to search for captions that contain two words, i.e. Clinton AND Obama.  The results are contained within a summary list with a hyperlink to the video content.

SmartAlerts, also new to Version 4.0, can be customized based upon the channel, time of day, duration, and choice of error such as a missing closed caption, loss of video or audio, loudness, etc. Users can set up custom profiles with specific preferences that, depending upon the application, are searchable by time, date and alarm profile.

The new variable speed playback option allows for playback at speeds such as Monitor IQ-Alarms2x, 4x, 1/2x, and -2x, for example. It enables faster operations during legal reviews, ad verification, content review and repurposing applications.

Enhanced editing provides the user the ability to produce frame-accurate cut clip edits. Users can produce cut-clips on live or previous recordings, which allows for quick turn around when repurposing and editing content.

Monitor IQ 4.0 Broadcast Monitoring System

Monitor IQ combines signal-monitoring, loudness monitoring, aircheck-logging, ad verification, competitive analysis and content repurposing and runs on Digital Nirvana’s Open Media Appliance – a highly scalable, industrial-grade server. JVC Leads Industry to New Levels of IP Integration, Ships ProHD Broadcaster Server, Cameras for Advanced Live HD Streaming

WAYNE, NJ – JVC Professional Products Company, a division of JVC Americas Corp., recently announced it is shipping its new GY-HM890 and GY-HM850 ProHD shoulder-mount cameras, as well as its new ProHD Broadcaster server powered by Zixi, which serves as the central component to JVC’s new Professional Streaming Services.

Introduced in February, the cameras feature a built-in Zixi engine that streams HD footage to a 4G LTE or Wi-Fi network for live field reports while recording HD to non-proprietary memory cards. The GY-HM850 and GY-HM890 feature Zixi’s new Advanced Streaming Technology (AST) for content-aware error GY-HM890 Beauty JPEG 4 3 14correction and bandwidth shaping. Both offer JVC’s Streamconfidence real-time viewfinder feedback of LTE signal and streaming status.

With bitrates as low as 256 kbps and up to 3 Mbps, Zixi proprietary algorithms maximize bandwidth to ensure reliable transmission even under difficult conditions. Advanced content aware error correction compensates for up to 30 percent packet loss.

Both HD cameras capture 1020×1080 images with three, 1/3-inch CMOS sensors and an interchangeable Fujinon wide angle 20x autofocus zoom lens. Dual SDHC/SDXC card slots allow simultaneous, relay or backup recording of HD or SD footage in a variety of native file formats using MPEG-2 or H.264 compression. The dual codec system also allows one card to record full HD while the other records a smaller, Web friendly format. The GY-HM890 is also a versatile studio or multi-camera field production camera, with a 68-pin connection that accommodates JVC fiber or multi-core camera modules.

Available as a physical server or cloud-based solution, ProHD Broadcaster receives live video from a GY-HM850, GY-HM890 or updated GY-HM650 3.0 camcorders, transcodes the signal for a variety of delivery platforms, and provides reliable transmission of the signal. A built-in matrix switcher with unlimited I/O makes it easy to manage signals for distribution, and content can be directed to multiple destinations, including off-the-shelf HD-SDI decoders for live broadcast or almost any Web-based content provider.

Each camera fed into the Broadcaster is uniquely identified, and can be selected through a Web control interface by station personnel for live switching. As a result, Broadcaster can cost effectively manage multiple cameras at a single event without a multi-camera production truck, or even share camera feeds between stations in a station group. Broadcaster also accepts and automatically transcodes video from Android and iOS devices, so stations can take live video from a reporter at a news site who only has a cell phone or tablet to provide video of the scene.

The new equipment has already been purchased by several broadcasters. For example, Sinclair Broadcast Group, one of the largest U.S. television broadcasting companies in the United States, has ordered more than 70 GY-HM890s. The company plans to standardize on the camera across its ENG operations. Del Parks, senior vice president of engineering and operations, Sinclair Broadcast Group, said the live HD streaming is the “game-changing feature we’ve been waiting for in a full-sized camcorder.”

According to Dave Folsom, Raycom Media vice president and CTO, the station group plans to purchase ProHD Broadcasters for its 32 local news stations, which are standardizing on JVC GY-HM650 3.0 mobile news cameras for ENG. Once installed, the servers will manage live HD reports from more than 300 cameras in the field, and will enable Raycom to easily share news coverage between markets.

NAB 2014: Digital Nirvana Introduces FIFOPro Ingest Back-Up System for Broadcast Production

Creates edit-ready backups of all live ingested media, eliminating the need for manual recording, cataloging, storing and transcoding of back-up tapes

Fremont, CA  – Digital Nirvana will give the broadcast industry its first look at the company’s new FIFOPro ingest back-up system at the NAB 2014 convention, to be held from April 5-10th at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Digital Nirvana will showcase this powerful new production tool in Booth #SU11017.

The FIFOPro system was engineered to streamline workflows for news FIFOPro Ingest Backup System no logodepartments and live production applications. Traditionally for SAN back up, broadcasters have relied on recording onto multiple tape decks, one for each feed, with station personnel completing the cumbersome tasks of loading, labeling, cataloging and storing each tape for back-up insurance. In this mode of operation, if the need arises to restore from tape, it must be manually de-archived, taken to the editing bay, loaded and then transcoded into the proper format prior to editing.

With the FIFOPro ingest back-up system, the workflow is automated. FIFOPro continually records and archives multiple HD-SDI feeds on a rolling First-in/First-out (FIFO) basis, retaining all content for 72 hours before deleting it from the system. This data is automatically recorded in an edit-ready AVCi 50 format along with its metadata, including channel, date and time. If original content is lost or damaged, it’s a simple process to find and access the stored media via web browser and export the selected clips to the watch folder for immediate editing.

By eliminating the need for multiple tape decks, transcoding and time-consuming metadata management, the FIFOPro ingest back-up system is the perfect solution to streamline workflows, save time, space and money.
