Digital Nirvana System Ensures Confident 24/7 Monitoring of Live Feeds at Discovery Communications

Fremont, CA Digital Nirvana, a provider of monitoring, compliance and content repurposing systems for broadcast, cable, and satellite networks, has announced that Discovery Communications selected its Monitor IQ™ broadcast monitoring system. The system will be used to provide 24/7 confidence monitor IQ 5 5 14monitoring for 45 live channels for Discovery North America’s broadcast operations.

“ASI functionality means less hardware for across the North America services and provides greater data metrics with regards to DPI and CALM logging,” said Tim Mazzacua, Director, TOC Operations, Discovery Communications, Inc. “By reducing the total equipment footprint, we can free up valuable rack space. Additionally, the Digital Nirvana system gives us a much better idea of what our customers are actually seeing.”

Arco Groenenberg, director of sales and marketing for Broadcast Products, Digital Nirvana, said Monitor IQ provides unique benefits to large, subscriber-based networks: “Networks run the risk of losing subscribers if there are frequent signal losses. Often the provider doesn’t know there’s a signal loss until a customer reports the problem. Monitor IQ lets operators keep track of their channel feeds and react to any signal loss or impairment before customers call.

“We look forward to a continued successful relationship with Discovery,” he continued, “and ensuring the network’s programming is delivered to its customers at the highest possible quality 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”

Azteca America Chooses Digital Nirvana’s Monitor IQ™ Essentials for ATSC QAM Broadcast Monitoring

Leading U.S. Hispanic network uses Monitor IQ™ Essentials

to ensure FCC compliance across multiple channels

Newark, CA — Azteca America, the nation’s third largest Hispanic television network based in Glendale, CA, has chosen Digital Nirvana’s Monitor IQ Essentials BMS (Broadcast Monitoring System) to ensure FCC regulatory compliance of its many network feeds.

As a subsidiary of the Mexican broadcast network TV Azteca, in Mexico City, Azteca America delivers TV Azteca as its primary service along with three Spanish language sub-channels to over 55 U.S. markets.  The network reaches roughly 89-percent of the total U.S. Latino population via satellite, cable, mobile, and Internet platforms.

Azteca America selected Monitor IQ Essentials, one of four versions of Monitor IQ that enables multi-channel HD/SD recording, logging, air-check monitoring, loudness monitoring, searching, repurposing and archive, among many vital quality control functions.  The network uses Monitor IQ Essentials to monitor its ATSC/QAM signals to ensure that closed captioning airs properly on all of its programming.  It can also monitor on-air signals to verify compliance with other federal mandates, such as loudness regulations imposed by The CALM Act.

“We’ve been using this product for several months now and rely on it heavily because it’s so easy to use.  Monitor IQ Essentials has a powerful search engine that makes it easy for one or multiple people to search for assets like closed captioning to ensure that they were indeed present throughout our broadcast programming,” said Andrew Cain, engineering and operations manager for Azteca America.  “If there is any quality control issue, the system pinpoints exactly where the problem is.

“We initially ordered the product to document that closed captioning is airing properly on our children’s programming,” Cain added.  “Today we use Monitor IQ Essentials to monitor the ATSC/QAM signals of our primary and three secondary channels.  We also use it to create a DVD with video clips as well as quarterly reports to document that our signal aired in compliance with FCC regulations.”

“We’re extremely pleased that Azteca America has chosen our Monitor IQ Essentials system to ensure FCC compliance and quality control,” said Ned Chini, vice president of sales and marketing, Digital Nirvana. “The prospect of monitoring, logging, and recording all of the content that airs concurrently on multiple channels is a daunting, labor-intensive task for any broadcaster. Our Monitor IQ products streamline and automate this mission critical process so that broadcasters like Azteca America can focus their energies on creating and delivering high-quality programming content to their audience.”

In its full form, the Monitor IQ BMS (Broadcast Monitoring System) combines the functionality of content recording (HD and SD in full resolution), content searching, retrieval and repurposing, Web publishing, signal monitoring, air-check logging, archiving, ad verification and tracking, and competitive analysis in a scalable networked appliance. Its Web-based management user interface makes it easy to use for technical and non-technical personnel. It is the only broadcast monitoring system that provides centralized management, automatic ad detection, a director’s audio track, as well as an advanced metadata harvester™.   Advanced metadata harvesting provides the ability to track the location of any data or discrepancies the system logs and collects from alarms or from broadcast feeds.

Because this platform is based on open web services (REST) API’s, the software can be easily integrated with third party products and scales from one to multiple servers and from one to hundreds of channels.  All Digital Nirvana solutions are web enabled, so users can access the software through any standard web browser without ActiveX component.
