ADVANCED LIGHTING & SOUND INSTALLS FOR-A HVS-300HS HD/SD SWITCHERS AT WOODSIDE BIBLE CHURCH

CYPRESS, Calif. –Woodside Bible Church recently installed three FOR-A HVS-300HS HD/SD digital video switchers as part of an upgrade to the video production and presentation system at its 2,500-seat main campus in Troy, Mich. The facility, used for worship services, concerts, bible studies, and other activities, is one of six Woodside campuses throughout the Metro Detroit area.

“The Troy campus is the flagship for the new FOR-A installation,” said Steve Colyer, technical arts pastor for Woodside. “We gear all our campuses identically. In the future, they will put FOR-A switchers in each of the campus locations, the total weekend attendance for which is about 10,000 people.”

Advanced Lighting & Sound (ALS), also based in Troy, handled the installation. Colyer was able to see the FOR-A switcher in action at the Kensington Community Church campus in Birmingham, where ALS had recently integrated a similar installation. “Steve had the opportunity to see the other systems work and was very pleased,” said Bob Sullivan at Advanced Lighting & Sound. “The built in multi viewer was a huge selling point, since it allowed each work station to have its own set of monitors.”

Previously at Woodside, a different controller ran each output element. In the new system, each of the HVS-300HS switchers controls one element of production. One unit provides output for the two side screens in the church, which are the primary image magnification (I-MAG) displays. The second switcher is dedicated to the center screen display, which carries graphics and additional video elements. The third switcher is used for the record feed that is repurposed for local cable and Web streaming.

Colyer worked with ALS to develop the streamlined solution that would provide a common user interface for the various functions and allow an upgrade to full HD last July. “The new FOR-A system has increased the amount of elements we can use in the service,” said Colyer. “To have it happen seamlessly and integrated with low stress has boosted the morale of our team, so that we can enjoy and do what we need to do distraction-free.”

“The congregation was wowed by the transition and many commented on the detail they could now see in the video,” added Sullivan. “The church has been experimenting with live streaming to five of the their campuses because the HD signal adds the quality needed at the remote sites to make it feasible.”
